Forces on High Rise Structures
SUBJECT –BUILDING STRUCTURES
TOPIC – Forces on High Rise Structures
CRUX – Safety being the key aspect of design,
Under a steady wind pressure, a high-rise structure deflects like a vertical cantilever beam that is fixed at the ground level. Seismic movements in a building are different from those produced by wind. To lengthen the building’s period of vibration and increase its damping capacity, the ductility requirement of seismic design involves equipping building with reserve strength through plastic wielding’s beyond the reserve strength limit.
While torsion may be present in buildings of any height, tortional resistance is enhanced by configuring braced frames, moment frames or shear wall into a complete tube.
