Summary about Dissertation
UN reports suggest that 50% of the population lives in cities now and is set to increase to 67% by 2050. Cities are important to a developing country like ours since they contribute for 80% of the GDP. But cities also cause around 80% of carbon emissions. To mitigate the global climatic change cities need to reduce carbon emissions drastically. As a result of such goals, there has been a trend for new urban developments which have created a demand for Low carbon emitting Eco cities. From a planning perspective a low carbon eco city is a large scale organisational planning of cities production and consumption of energy. Increasing demand for energy, decreasing conventional fossil fuel energy sources, and environmental concerns are driving forces for this model.
